Ellen
M. Martin
Ellen joined Kureczka/Martin Associates in October 2000,
after five years
as director of corporate communications at XOMA, a biopharmaceutical developer
and manufacturer. She has also served as director of communications for
DNA Plant Technology, and the Bay Area Bioscience Center, as well as a
communications consultant for biotechnology and high technology clients,
including as an associate with J Kureczka Associates.
With her employers and clients, Ellen has successfully developed communications
strategy and tactics, as well as designing and implementing investor and
media relations programs. She was a pioneer in the strategic use of the
Internet for biotech communications, including web site design and content
development. Her intensive experience in the newly important area of individual
investor relations has earned her a strong reputation among Internet investors.
A quick study in technical and scientific fields, she effectively communicates
complex scientific ideas to general audiences, including journalists,
investors and the general public.
Before launching her career in biotech communications, Ellen spent 10
years as a banker, developing a depth of understanding of financial concepts,
transactions and markets that has been of unique value to employers and
clients in investor relations and financial media relations as well as
for writing and editing financial materials.
Ellen has a BS in anthropology from the University of Illinois, where
she specialized in physical anthropology. She also did graduate study,
fieldwork and teaching in genetics, paleoepidemiology, archeology and
osteology. She holds an MBA from Northwestern University Graduate School
of Management in marketing and finance.
She is an active member of the National Investor Relations Institute and
the Bay Area Biocommunicators group.
