Joan E. Kureczka
Joan E. Kureczka is the founding partner of Kureczka/Martin
Associates, a firm she initially formed as J. Kureczka Associates in 1990.
Prior to establishing her own practice, she was technical director and
led media relations at Annes Associates, a San Francisco-based firm specializing
in healthcare public and investor relations and business-to-business marketing
communications.
During her career, Joan has achieved significant success in helping clients
communicate difficult scientific concepts and achieve outstanding media
coverage for technical and business accomplishments. She offers clients
and media alike a unique perspective on healthcare technology and the
biopharmaceutical industry, having prior experience as a biotechnology
industry reporter, biotech public policy expert, industry consultant,
and regulatory affairs staff member of biotech pioneer, Genentech.
Joan has extensive experience in the design and implementation of corporate
communications programs, and is well versed in technical, regulatory,
managerial, financial and media issues as they affect biotechnology, emerging
pharmaceutical and related healthcare companies. She has also been instrumental
in assisting young biotechnology firms with strategic positioning, as
well as with the writing/editing of business plans, corporate partnering
and financing documents.
She received a M.S. in environmental management from the University of
San Francisco, where she performed the first-ever examination of the framework
of state and local regulation affecting the biotechnology industry. The
Institute of Governmental Studies, U.C. Berkeley subsequently published
this research in 1984. She holds a B.S. in microbiology from Cornell University
and conducted graduate level studies in biochemistry and microbiology
at Colorado State University, Fort Collins.
She is an active member of the National Investor Relations Institute and
the Northern California Science Writers Association.
